Iraq Debate

In the debate, i went for option two which consists in gradually pulling American Troops away from Iraq and help the country rebuild their government and “teach” them to be self-sufficient. And my general idea after the debate is that maybe option 3 is the correct solution. Because it is true, if 80% of the Iraqi population doesn’t want American troops nor any American civilian in Iraq, how is America going to help them. If Iraq basically hates America, they won’t want any help from the United States so better withdraw from the country even though it looks “coward” or “dishonorable” for the soldiers that died in that war. The reason I chose Option 2 in the debate was because I didn’t really think about the population in Iraq hating America. It would’ve obviously been easier if Iraq didn’t hate America so much. America could rebuild Iraq’s government, in fact, the whole country but I think what Gloria stated in the debate “you can’t help a country that hates you”. That is why I changed my mind to Option number 3. I don’t think option number 1 nor option number 4 are the correct solutions for the Iraqi problem to be solved. You can’t force Iraqi’s to let Americans “invade” their country temporarily. You can’t convince people, people have their own beliefs and 80% of the population want America out of the country. Therefore I changed my mind and though Option #3 was the best solution.

1st Blog: Meet Abu Abed: the US’s new ally against al-Qaida

I chose this entry, because it really caught my eye. It talks about this guy that has talked to a young Sunni that is going to join the american alliance against the Al-qaeda. What the young Sunni is basically explaining is that after winning over the Al-qaeda they would go fight agains their main enemies which were the shi’as. This entry, is not very reliable. I mean, in some ways it is, because they were exact quotations from the person that said those things. But on the other side, it isn’t very reliable for the fact that it is 2nd handed information. The evidence for this is that in the beginning it says “he told me”. Maybe he “told him” but he misinterpreted or maybe he wrote it differently or maybe he invented it. Who knows the case is that this entry is not that reliable.

2nd blog: Three Nights at the Airport “Prison”

This blog entry is about this guy who’s brother in law and sister was stuck in an airport for 3 nights. It was basically about both of them in the airport principally treated like dogs and talked in a humiliating way. They meet this classy guy in the same room and they talk to eachother and they get informed of what is happening and what is said is that Jordan is a place were they treat people like dogs. And no one likes that. This entry is definitly reliable because it is told in 1st person. It is, what we call a primary source. And the evidence for all this is that it is a true story. And these sorts of things cannot be really invented.
